Equipment you need to get started

  • Grinder

A grinder that can grind espresso beans to a finer size will be needed. You can use a retail grinder such as a Ditting KR805 and a Mahlkonig EK43 if you have one. A grinder may not be possible, but you can still use ground coffee. Just ask for it to be ground on the coarser side of a filter.

  • Brewer

There are many cold brewers that can be used by professional coffee mug makers. It’s simple to get started with the traditional toddy brewer. (The recipe below is based upon this device). It’s inexpensive, functional, and hard to break.

However, if your preference is to make it yourself, you can still get amazing results by boiling water in a saucepan or using a plunger/ french press. Then filter the ground twice with a sieve and once with a paper filter.
